MESSAGE FROM THE CONFERENCE DIRECTOR

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to our first international conference on learning and teaching.

Our Conference theme is SHARING BEST PRACTICES: ENHANCING THE TEACHING CAPACITIES OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS. It will be hosted by The Directorate of Learning, Teaching and Student Success (DLTSS), and is scheduled to take place from 8-10 October, 2024 at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.

OVERVIEW
In a world of constant flux: rapidly evolving technologies and the progressive development of new knowledge and innovative ways of knowing, it is incumbent on tertiary institutions to remain relevant and current. In response, institutions are seeking transformative ways of enhancing learning, teaching, assessment and scholarship.

MAIN OBJECTIVES
The Conference will provide spaces that encourage authentic, holistic and disruptive approaches to reimagining learning, teaching, assessment and scholarship. It will be a time and place to connect with colleagues from all disciplines about capacity enhancement, curriculum development, assessment, research and the impact of the digital revolution, among other things.

WHO IS THE CONFERENCE AIMED AT?
The Conference is aimed at academics and post-graduate students from all disciplines and levels; learning and teaching specialists, and researchers interested in the enhancement of learning, teaching, assessment and scholarship practices, among others.

Meet our Speakers

Dr. Vijay Singh Thakur

Professor Emeritus
Department of English
St. Alloysius Autonomous College
Jabalpur, India

Dr. Vijay Singh Thakur holds a Master’s degree in English Literature, Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching English, M. Phil in Sociolinguistics, and Doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics.  He has worked at various institutions and in various capacities. 

Among these are: Assistant Professor of Communicative English at St. Alloysius College of Jabalpur, India; Associate Professor of English Language and Linguistics, Head of the English Language and Literature Department, at Dhofar University, Salalah, Oman. He worked at Dhofar University for 15 years where he also functioned as Acting Head of the Social Science Department and Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Applied Sciences.

His publications include 3 books, 2 jointly edited books and 39 research papers in the areas of Applied Sociolinguistics, Discourse Stylistics, Cross-Cultural Pragmatics, and TESOL Pedagogy. He has presented papers and conducted educational workshops at 26 international conferences, and has also delivered 13 educational webinars for different educational institutions in India and abroad.

He has supervised doctoral studies and evaluated more than 50 Ph.D. and Master’s theses in the capacity of external examiner from universities in India, South Africa, Qatar, and Oman. He has examined a number of research proposals for funding referred by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Oman. He serves on the editorial boards of 8 internationally accredited journals indexed by Scopus, Eric, EBSCO, etc. for the last 17 years. Furthermore, he is an active member of the international not-for-profit academic organization called English Scholars Beyond Borders. He has received 7 international scholarly nominations and awards. Currently, he is affiliated as Emeritus Professor of English, with St. Alloysius Autonomous College in Jabalpur, India.
